Guide: The Perimenopause Unravelled
A practical guide to the perimenopause, created in collaboration with GP Lotte van Dijk
After the overwhelming success of, and positive response to, the Dutch version of our guide The Perimenopause Unravelled, it's now also available in English!
Because it goes without saying that perimenopause doesn’t stop at the Dutch border.
All over the world, women are navigating this phase of life — often without the right information or support. And many doctors are still playing catch-up.
That’s why I co-created this guide with GP Lotte van Dijk. It’s a practical resource filled with up-to-date insights on symptoms, treatment options, and how hormones actually work.
Lotte van Dijk was driven to act when, last year, she experienced severe perimenopausal symptoms that shook the very foundation of her everyday life. She had to learn through my podcast what was happening to her.
Why hadn’t this been covered more thoroughly during her GP training?
Since then, she’s become a vocal advocate—especially on LinkedIn—campaigning for greater awareness among GPs and gynaecologists. Because this is something every doctor should know.
I, myself, experienced extreme emotional swings, and for years I thought, 'It must be me.' It wasn’t until I reached menopause (ten years later!) and started bioidentical hormone therapy that I realised: it was my hormones all along…
That was the moment I knew more women needed this knowledge — and I committed to shaking up the medical world.
Through our shared mission, The Perimenopause Unravelled was born. And as a paid Substack member, you’ll receive the guide as a gift with your subscription!

And while this guide is grounded in the Dutch healthcare context, its insights and advice are relevant far beyond the Netherlands.
Both for women and healthcare professionals.
Not an English speaker yourself, but know someone who would benefit from this? Spread the word!
Also exciting to share: Lotte and I are featured alongside gynaecologist Liselotte Robbe from Karmenta—the expert in early perimenopause—in the upcoming event The Connected Health Weekend - Exploring Mind, Body and Hormones in Amsterdam at the 27th and 28th of September, that I am organising together with Womanship, where Dr Louise Newson, the world's most famous menopause specialist, will be the keynote speaker. There is an early bird offer now, until the 20th of July!
Because women need to know what’s coming their way—and what they can do about it. And trust me: there’s plenty.
Thanks for all the support. From me, and on behalf of all the other women who’ve discovered they’re not losing their minds after all!
Warm regards,
Suzanne Rethans
